Our varsity Hawks braved the cold to participate in the first ever "winter classic" held by Metro West at the Elmhurst YMCA on January 1, 2011 against the OPRF Huskies.
The snow started falling just as the players took the ice to start the warm-up period, but ended before the first face-off.
The Hawks came on strong scoring their first goal at 12:14 of the first period with a goal by Joe Petramale (his first of three!) assisted by Ryan Ozanic. Petramale drew blood against the Huskies again at 9:07 with an assist by Colin Smith. The first period ended and the players headed inside to try to warm up.
The second period brought three more goals for the Hawks.
Sam Leskun, Ryan Ozanic and Eric Bacon each buried the puck in the OPRF net to give the Hawks a 5-0 lead going into the third period.
As dedicated parents stood, shivering in the cold, the Hawks returned to the ice for the final period. Joe Petramale sealed the Huskies fate with his third goal at 12:10 giving our Hawks a 6-0 shutout!
Congratulations to both teams for being
part of this historic event.
